Chili Night with a Twist
Share
When the weather turns chilly, there's nothing better than a big bowl of homemade chili — warm, hearty, and full of flavour. But what if you could take that comfort to the next level? Our Traditional Scone Mix makes the fluffiest dumplings, cooked right on top of your chili in the slow cooker.
This recipe takes your scone mix and turns it into a savory dinner-ready dish — the kind that fills the kitchen with cozy smells and makes everyone ask for seconds.
What You'll Need:
- 1/2 bag of Bakery Bliss Traditional Scone (approximately 2 1/4 cups)
- 1 cup of Milk
- 2 tablespoons of Melted Butter
- Optional mix-ins: 1/2 cup Shredded Cheese or a pinch or of Chili Flakes
- Optional toppings: Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, Green Onions
Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Start with your chili
Prepare your favourite chili recipe in the slow cooker and let it simmer until it is hot and thickened.
2. Mix up your dumpling dough
In a medium bowl, stir together the scone mix, milk, melted butter, and any add-ins. Gently stir together until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Do not overmix.
3. Add the dumplings
Drop spoonfuls of dough (about 2 tablespoons each) onto the surface of the simmering chili. You'll get about 8 - 10 dumplings. Do not press them down, they will puff up on their own.
4. Cover and cook
Put the lid back on the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 1 hour (LOW for 1.5 - 2 hours). Resist the urge to lift the lid. The trapped steam is what cooks the dumplings through.
5. Check and serve
When done, the dumplings will be puffed, matte on top, and cooked through in the center. Scoop into bowls, top with cheese, sour cream, green onions, and enjoy!
